Setting:
Deep within Elden Woods, a mystical forest where twilight never fades, magical creatures roam freely. People from nearby villages rarely dare to enter, as the forest is said to be protected by an elusive guardian—a fey spirit who allows no one to harm its trees. Legend tells that only a man with a pure heart can find the guardian and witness the secrets of Elden Woods.
Characters:
- Rowan: A 22-year-old herbalist from a nearby village, quiet and deeply compassionate. He’s known for his talent with plants, but he’s often misunderstood due to his reclusive nature and his fixation on studying the healing properties of plants found only in Elden Woods.
- Lirian: The Guardian of Elden Woods, an ancient fey spirit with long silver hair, emerald-green eyes, and an aura that blends with the forest itself. Although Lirian is centuries old, he’s bound to protect the woods in solitude, only able to leave if he falls in love with a mortal who accepts him.
Plot:
Chapter 1: The Forbidden Journey
Rowan’s mother falls gravely ill, and none of his herbs from the village seem to work. Desperate, he sets out at dawn toward Elden Woods, risking the forest’s wrath to find a rare blossom known to cure even the worst of ailments. As he ventures deeper, an eerie but strangely comforting light guides him. He soon realizes he’s not alone when he feels a soft breeze and hears a gentle voice warning him to turn back.
Rowan continues forward, explaining to the unseen presence that he only seeks to help his mother. Finally, Lirian appears from within the mist, intrigued by Rowan’s selflessness. He allows Rowan to take only one blossom but warns him not to return.
Chapter 2: A Glimpse of the Guardian
Rowan’s mother recovers thanks to the rare herb, but Rowan can’t stop thinking about the silver-haired stranger he encountered. He returns to Elden Woods, not to gather herbs but to catch another glimpse of Lirian. Although Rowan tries to stay hidden, Lirian senses his presence, and instead of sending him away, he allows Rowan to walk beside him, showing him the beauty of Elden Woods.
Over time, Rowan learns of the curse binding Lirian to the woods. Lirian can’t leave the forest unless he finds a mortal willing to love him despite the curse. As they spend more time together, a bond begins to form. Rowan sees past Lirian’s ethereal beauty and quiet sadness, while Lirian is drawn to Rowan’s kindness and bravery.
Chapter 3: A Heart’s Choice
One evening, under a sky full of stars, Rowan and Lirian share their first kiss. Lirian’s heart, unused to warmth, trembles with longing, but he fears Rowan’s inevitable departure. Rowan, however, pledges to visit every day, confessing that he’s fallen in love with Lirian’s spirit and the forest he protects.
A shadow threatens to end their happiness, though. An outsider enters Elden Woods, seeking its rare resources for profit, and attempts to cut down the ancient trees. Furious, Lirian’s power manifests in a whirlwind of light, and Rowan realizes that if Lirian uses too much energy, he’ll be bound to the forest forever, never able to leave.
Chapter 4: The Guardian’s Sacrifice
In a desperate bid to save Lirian, Rowan shields him, begging the stranger to leave and vowing that he and Lirian will protect the forest together. The intruder flees, but Lirian, weakened from his exertion, collapses. Rowan holds him close, confessing his love once more, his tears mingling with the forest’s dew.
With the breaking dawn, Lirian wakes, and Rowan realizes the curse has lifted—Lirian’s sacrifice of his own power to protect Elden Woods proved his worthiness of love. Rowan smiles, understanding that Lirian is free to leave the forest and that he can now walk with him, not just in Elden Woods but in the world beyond.
Epilogue: The Light Beyond the Forest
Lirian and Rowan start a new life together, tending to the land beyond Elden Woods and healing those in need. The forest remains protected, knowing its guardian has found love and purpose. Every twilight, they return to the forest for quiet moments, a reminder of where their love first blossomed under the ancient trees.
