Beneath the Iron Sky

Beneath the Iron Sky

Prologue

In the sprawling metropolis of Neo Astra, humanity lived under an endless, artificial sky. The city’s towering skyscrapers gleamed with neon lights, while the lower levels were shrouded in shadows and secrets. Amid this bustling city, two lives crossed paths: Lucian Vale, a stoic cybernetic mechanic with a mysterious past, and Evan Cross, a bright and idealistic journalist determined to uncover the truth about Neo Astra’s hidden underworld.

Their story began with a chance encounter in a rain-soaked alley.

Act 1: Sparks and Shadows

Evan was chasing a lead on the enigmatic crime syndicate known as Eidolon when he found himself cornered by two men in black suits.

“Look, I don’t know what you think I know,” Evan stammered, “but you’re making a huge mistake.”

Before they could respond, a shadowy figure appeared, his glowing blue cybernetic arm whirring ominously.

“Back off,” the man growled, his voice low and threatening.

The assailants hesitated before retreating into the night.

“Who… who are you?” Evan asked, his breath shaky.

The man turned, revealing piercing gray eyes framed by dark hair. “Lucian,” he said simply. “You’re lucky I was passing by.”

Evan wasn’t sure if he was lucky or terrified.

Act 2: A Partnership Forms

Determined to thank his savior—and intrigued by his mysterious aura—Evan sought Lucian out. He found him in a hidden repair shop deep within the city’s underbelly, surrounded by sparking wires and humming machinery.

“What do you want, journalist?” Lucian asked, not looking up from his work.

“I want to thank you,” Evan said, stepping closer. “And… maybe I could use your help.”

Lucian raised an eyebrow. “With what?”

“Uncovering Eidolon. You clearly know how to handle yourself in their world.”

Lucian hesitated, his cybernetic hand flexing unconsciously. “I have my reasons for staying out of their business.”

“But you didn’t stay out of mine,” Evan pointed out, a small smile playing on his lips.

After a long pause, Lucian sighed. “Fine. But don’t make me regret it.”

Act 3: Truths Revealed

As they delved deeper into the city’s secrets, Evan discovered there was more to Lucian than his gruff exterior. He wasn’t just a mechanic—he was a former operative of Aegis, a defunct anti-crime unit that had been betrayed by its own leaders.

“I trusted them,” Lucian confessed one night, his voice tinged with bitterness. “And they left us to die.”

Evan, moved by Lucian’s vulnerability, placed a hand on his shoulder. “You’re not alone anymore.”

Their partnership blossomed into something deeper, though neither of them dared to put it into words. Late nights were spent decoding stolen files, their heads inches apart over glowing screens. Brief touches and lingering glances became their unspoken language.

Act 4: A Fight for Freedom

Their investigation eventually led them to the heart of Eidolon’s operation: a towering data center that controlled much of Neo Astra’s infrastructure. But infiltrating it was a suicide mission.

“We don’t have to do this,” Lucian said, his gray eyes searching Evan’s face.

“Yes, we do,” Evan replied firmly. “The people deserve the truth. And I’m not letting you face this alone.”

During the heist, they were ambushed. Evan was pinned down, his breath coming in ragged gasps as Lucian fought desperately to protect him.

“Go!” Evan shouted. “Save yourself!”

“Not a chance,” Lucian growled, dragging Evan to his feet.

Together, they managed to upload the stolen data to the city’s public network, exposing Eidolon’s corruption. But not without a cost—Lucian’s cybernetic arm was badly damaged, and Evan was left with a deep gash on his side.

Epilogue: A New Dawn

The revelations brought the city to its knees, sparking widespread protests and calls for reform. Evan’s story became the most-read article in Neo Astra’s history, and Lucian’s name was cleared as a hero of Aegis.

In the quiet aftermath, Evan visited Lucian’s repair shop.

“You could have left me behind,” Evan said softly.

Lucian smirked, setting down a wrench. “And miss the chance to annoy you for a few more years?”

Evan stepped closer, his heart pounding. “Lucian…”

Before he could finish, Lucian pulled him into a kiss, his cybernetic arm gently cradling Evan’s waist.

“You’re reckless,” Lucian murmured against his lips.

“And you’re impossible,” Evan replied, smiling.

Under Neo Astra’s artificial sky, two hearts beat as one, bound together by the secrets they’d uncovered and the love they’d found along the way.
