Unspoken Thoughts

Unspoken Thoughts

Chapter 1: The Gift

Evan was the quiet type, the kind of student who kept to himself, rarely speaking unless absolutely necessary. But beneath his reserved exterior lay a secret he had carried since childhood—he could read minds. It wasn’t something he had ever wanted, but it was a gift—or curse—that he had learned to live with.

Navigating through college was a challenge for Evan. The constant buzz of thoughts around him was overwhelming at times, but he had learned to block most of it out, focusing on his studies. However, there was one person whose thoughts seemed to slip through his defenses—Professor Alexander Hart.

Professor Hart was one of the most respected lecturers at the college. He was in his mid-thirties, intelligent, and known for his passion for literature. He was also the only person whose thoughts Evan couldn’t ignore, no matter how hard he tried.

It started innocently enough—occasional glimpses into the professor’s thoughts during lectures. But over time, Evan began to notice a pattern. There was something deeper, more personal, in the way Professor Hart thought about him.

Chapter 2: The Discovery

One day, after class, Evan stayed behind to ask a question about an assignment. As the room emptied, the usual flood of thoughts from his classmates faded, leaving only Professor Hart’s voice in his mind.

“He’s so beautiful… if only I could tell him.”

Evan froze, his heart racing as he looked up at his professor. He had never imagined that Professor Hart might feel something more than academic interest in him. But the thought was there, clear as day, echoing in his mind.

“Is everything okay, Evan?” Professor Hart asked, noticing the student’s sudden stillness.

Evan quickly composed himself, trying to act normal. “Yes, Professor. I just had a question about the essay.”

They discussed the assignment, but Evan’s mind was elsewhere. He couldn’t stop thinking about what he had heard—or rather, what he had read in his professor’s mind. It was a revelation that left him both confused and curious.

Chapter 3: Unspoken Words

Over the next few weeks, Evan found it increasingly difficult to focus in Professor Hart’s class. Every time their eyes met, he could sense the unspoken feelings simmering just beneath the surface. The professor was careful, always maintaining a professional demeanor, but Evan knew the truth now. He could hear it in the quiet moments, in the stray thoughts that slipped through.

One afternoon, after a particularly intense lecture on romantic poetry, Professor Hart asked Evan to stay behind.

“Evan, I wanted to discuss your last essay,” he began, but his thoughts betrayed him. “I wish I could tell him how I feel… I can’t keep pretending.”

Evan’s heart pounded in his chest. He had always been good at hiding his ability, but now, he felt an overwhelming urge to do something about what he knew.

“Professor,” Evan interrupted, his voice trembling slightly, “I need to tell you something.”

Professor Hart looked at him, surprised by the sudden interruption. “What is it, Evan?”

Evan took a deep breath, knowing he was about to cross a line. “I… I can hear your thoughts.”

The room fell silent, the weight of Evan’s confession hanging in the air. Professor Hart stared at him, a mixture of shock and disbelief on his face.

“You’re serious,” he finally said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Evan nodded. “I’ve been able to for as long as I can remember. I try not to invade people’s privacy, but with you… it’s different. I can’t seem to block you out.”

Professor Hart sat down, his mind racing with thoughts of disbelief, fear, and something else—hope.

“And you’ve… you’ve heard…?” he trailed off, unable to finish the sentence.

Evan nodded again, his cheeks flushing. “Yes, I know how you feel about me.”

Chapter 4: The Confession

Professor Hart looked down, his thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. “I never meant for you to find out like this. It’s… inappropriate, and I’m sorry.”

Evan shook his head. “You don’t have to apologize. I just… I didn’t know what to do.”

Silence stretched between them, heavy with the weight of everything left unsaid. Then, slowly, Professor Hart stood up and walked over to Evan.

“Evan,” he began softly, “I’ve tried to ignore these feelings, to push them aside because they aren’t right. But now that you know… I can’t lie to you.”

Evan looked up at him, his heart pounding. “I don’t know what to say.”

“You don’t have to say anything,” Professor Hart replied, his voice barely more than a whisper. “Just know that whatever happens, I will respect your wishes.”

Evan could hear the sincerity in his thoughts, the genuine care and concern. He was overwhelmed, not just by the confession, but by the fact that someone he admired so much felt this way about him.

“I…” Evan started, his voice shaky, “I don’t know how I feel, but I want to figure it out. With you.”

Professor Hart’s eyes softened, a small, hopeful smile tugging at his lips. “Then we’ll take it slow. We’ll figure it out together.”

Chapter 5: The Beginning

In the days that followed, their relationship began to change. They were careful, navigating the complexities of their situation with mutual respect and understanding. They kept their interactions professional in public, but in private, they began to explore the connection they shared.

Evan found himself drawn to Professor Hart in ways he hadn’t expected. He appreciated the man’s intellect, his kindness, and the way he made Evan feel understood, even without words. And for Professor Hart, Evan was a revelation—a young man who saw the world in a way no one else did, someone who could challenge him and make him see things differently.

Their love grew quietly, tenderly, with no need for words to express what they both knew to be true. Evan still read minds, but now, there was one mind he didn’t need to listen to, because he knew exactly what was in Professor Hart’s heart.

Epilogue: Silent Devotion

Years later, Evan looked back on those early days with a smile. What had started as an unexpected discovery had blossomed into a love that was deep and enduring. He and Alexander had faced many challenges, but they had done so together, their bond only growing stronger with time.

Evan no longer needed to read Alexander’s mind to know what he was thinking. They had learned to communicate with a look, a touch, a shared moment of silence. Their love was unspoken, yet it spoke volumes—a connection that transcended words, built on trust, understanding, and a quiet, unbreakable bond.
