Eyes of Control

Eyes of Control

Chapter 1: The Power of a Gaze

Lucas had always found the world dull. People were predictable, bending to his will with nothing but a glance. Ever since he was a teenager, his eyes held a secret power—he could control others, make them do anything he wanted, and no one could resist. At first, it had been a survival tool, a way to navigate a difficult childhood. But over the years, it became a twisted form of entertainment.

He could make people fall in love with him, commit to him, give him whatever he wanted, and then discard them as soon as the thrill was gone. They were puppets, and he was the master. But with all the fun and games, Lucas had never felt anything genuine. No connection, no real affection.

Until he met Adrian.

Adrian was different, mysterious in a way that intrigued Lucas immediately. They crossed paths at a secluded bar one rainy evening. Lucas’ eyes landed on him as he sipped his drink, expecting the usual to happen. He glanced at Adrian, holding his gaze, waiting for the familiar moment when the stranger would fall under his control.

But nothing happened.

Adrian didn’t flinch, didn’t blink, didn’t move towards him like everyone else had. He just stared back, a faint smile on his lips. For the first time in years, Lucas felt a wave of unease, almost as if he were being seen for what he truly was—a manipulator. A master of illusions.

He approached Adrian anyway, convinced it had been a fluke.

“You’re staring,” Adrian said softly, his voice like velvet, both calm and unsettling.

Lucas smirked. “You like being stared at?”

Adrian chuckled and tilted his head. “Maybe. Depends on who’s doing the staring.”

The conversation was light, playful even, but Lucas couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was off. Still, he couldn’t resist the challenge Adrian presented. For the first time in years, he wanted someone who didn’t fall at his feet. He wanted to know more.

Chapter 2: Falling into the Trap

Days turned into weeks, and Lucas found himself entangled with Adrian in ways he hadn’t expected. They started spending more time together—long nights talking, moments of shared silence, and stolen kisses in the dark. Adrian was intoxicating, magnetic, and for reasons Lucas couldn’t understand, he felt drawn to him like never before.

But beneath his growing affection was a sense of confusion. Why couldn’t he control Adrian? Why didn’t his powers work on him? There were moments Lucas tried to test it, giving Adrian subtle commands through his gaze, expecting him to obey like everyone else—but Adrian never did.

Instead, it was Lucas who seemed to be changing. He found himself making decisions he wouldn’t usually make—canceling plans with other lovers, prioritizing Adrian over his own interests, feeling protective in ways he hadn’t felt before.

It didn’t make sense. Why was he so hooked on this man?

“I feel like I’m losing control,” Lucas confessed one night as they lay together in bed, the city lights casting shadows on their intertwined bodies.

Adrian’s fingers trailed lazily across Lucas’ chest. “Maybe you never had control to begin with,” he murmured.

Lucas laughed softly, though there was an edge of unease in his voice. “That’s not true. I control everything.”

Adrian’s lips curved into a smile, but his eyes remained unreadable. “Do you?”

Chapter 3: Unraveling

As the weeks went on, Lucas started noticing strange things. He began forgetting moments, entire conversations with Adrian slipping from his mind. He would find himself standing in places he didn’t remember walking to, saying things that didn’t feel like his own thoughts. His power seemed weaker, clouded, almost as if something was blocking it.

And then the dreams began. Strange, disjointed dreams of Adrian standing over him, whispering things he couldn’t quite hear, his eyes glowing with a light that seemed too unnatural.

Lucas woke up drenched in sweat, his heart pounding. It was the first time in his life that he felt true fear. He had always been in control, always pulling the strings, but now he felt like a marionette in someone else’s hands.

The thought was absurd, impossible. But it gnawed at him.

One night, after another strange blackout where hours had passed without his recollection, Lucas confronted Adrian. “What are you doing to me?” he demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and fear.

Adrian looked at him calmly, his expression unreadable as always. “What do you think I’m doing?”

“I don’t know,” Lucas snapped, running a hand through his disheveled hair. “I can’t think straight when I’m with you. I can’t control anything anymore. Why? Why don’t you bend to me like everyone else?”

Adrian’s eyes darkened, and for the first time, Lucas saw something beneath the surface. Something dangerous.

“Maybe,” Adrian said slowly, his voice chilling, “because you’re the one being controlled, Lucas.”

The words hit Lucas like a punch to the gut, his world spinning. No. It couldn’t be. Adrian couldn’t have power over him. He was the one with the power. He had always been the one with the power.

But deep down, Lucas knew it was true. Adrian’s calm demeanor, the way he always seemed to know what Lucas was thinking, the subtle way his actions never felt like his own—it all made sense now.

He had been the one under Adrian’s control all along.

Chapter 4: The Tragic End

Realizing the truth shattered something in Lucas. He had been played, manipulated in the very way he had done to others all his life. The irony wasn’t lost on him, but the pain was unbearable. He had fallen in love with a man who had used him like a toy, twisting his thoughts, controlling his actions, all while letting him believe he was the one in charge.

“How long?” Lucas asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Adrian stood by the window, his back to Lucas. “Does it matter?”

Lucas felt his heart breaking. He had thought their connection was real, that for once, someone saw him beyond the power he held. But it had all been a lie.

“I loved you,” Lucas whispered, his voice cracking.

Adrian turned to him, his eyes soft but unrelenting. “I know.”

“Was any of it real?” Lucas asked, tears brimming in his eyes.

Adrian walked over, cupping Lucas’ face gently in his hands. “You’ll never know, Lucas. That’s the tragedy of it.”

And with that, Adrian leaned in for one final kiss, tender and heartbreaking, before disappearing into the night, leaving Lucas alone in the hollow silence of his broken reality.

Epilogue: Eyes Wide Open

Lucas never saw Adrian again, but the scars of their relationship never left him. He no longer used his powers the way he once had, no longer manipulated the world around him. He had learned that even the strongest can be controlled, and that love—real love—was never about power.

But in the quiet moments, when the night was still and the city lights flickered in the distance, Lucas wondered if any part of what he had felt for Adrian had been real, or if it was all just another game in the hands of someone who had mastered control far better than he ever could.
